Shabu Ghin, Senopati’s Latest Shabu Shabu Joint

Shabu Ghin
Don’t you people agree with me that one of the greatest God’s gifts to the world is all you can eat restaurant (AYCE)? Especially one that serves high-quality meat that would satisfy even the pickiest carnivores. One that is also somewhat healthier, as it mainly serves shabu-shabu and not barbecued meat. Say hello to Shabu Ghin, Senopati area’s latest shabu shabu joint.

THE NITTY GRITTY DETAILS
Conveniently—or I should say incoveniently, considering the famous traffic jam that plagues the area—located at Jalan Woltermonginsidi, Shabu Ghin is one of the many new restaurants that never seem to stop popping out like pimples on my face around Senopati. It’s visually recognisable thanks to its huge black, white, and red signage that simply state “Shabu Ghin”.

While it’s not the most ideal place in Jakarta for long chats with friends—who needs talking when good food is involved anyway?—Shabu Ghin is perfect for a big lunch. Each table can seat up to 4 people, and each chair has its own electric stove to heat up the soup. This, too, is what makes the restaurant feels somewhat futuristic. The smoky buffet table also underlines that point.

THE FOOD
The restaurant offers three types of meat with different characteristics: Special Beef (IDR 188k), US Premium Beef (IDR 238k), and Wagyu Beef (IDR 388k). Take a pick of your favourite, then you’ll get to eat as much meat as your heart desires! The catch is every single person on the table must order the same type of beef. As you can imagine, it’s probably going to be very difficult for the staffs to control everything if everyone ordered different types of meat.

The meat comes in stacks of white boxes that simply beg you to dump the whole content inside the soup and have a race with your friends on who can eat the most meat.

To accompany your meaty shabu-shabu meal, Shabu Ghin gives a choice of five soup types: Original Konbu, Chicken Mizutaki, Spicy Tonyu, Spicy Seafood, and Sukiyaki. I’m partial to the Original Konbu soup, probably because I can really enjoy the beef flavour and texture without any “disruption” from other spices.

The meal also comes with free access to the buffet table that provides vegetables, fried snacks, condiments, various beverages—tea, soda, coffee—and dessert.

THE VERDICT
I had a really great time at Shabu Ghin! My omnivorous side says we shall come back whenever the need to have a meaty time strikes!

P.S. For those of you feeling reluctant to dine AYCE, Shabu Ghin offers set menus that serve only two plates of beef—also with unlimited access to the buffet table.
