Nenen Nyok: The Cheeky Fresh Milk

7:35 PM

Nenen Nyok
It is universally believed that a glass of fresh milk a day can make you stronger and healthier. But then you realise… It is so damn hard to find a glass of fresh milk in Jakarta and its neighbouring areas. Yes, you can find milk in supermarkets, but you want something directly from the farm and also budget-friendly—safe for your wallet. Good bye problem, hello solution: Nenen Nyok.

Nenen Nyok serves milk that is less than a day freshly milked from the cow. It first opened at Taman Harapan Bekasi in 2014 and now has moved into a small shop house next to one of the main roads in Bekasi.

THE NITTY GRITTY DETAILS
While its literal translation from Bahasa to English—let’s have milk—is completely innocent, the words “nenen nyok” would leave a lot of conservative people gobsmacked. Nenen means breastfeeding and nyok is a Betawinese slang for “let’s!”. Got it? Their tagline is “susunya ngangenin”, which literally means that you will miss their milk. The owners must be very, very cheeky.

The café is decorated in red-hued walls, simple wood furnitures, tile flooring, and a diagram about milking a cow. Everything might seem humble, but this simple café has catapulted a spreading trend of fresh milk stalls around Bekasi and East Jakarta.

THE MILK.
Susu Murni Oreo - Oreo Fresh Milk (IDR 10k)
It’s a no-brainer, really, to combine Oreo and fresh milk. The two go hand in hand like Romeo and Juliet, thus this combination is a proven formula. The milk tastes good and tasty.

Susu Murni Green Tea - Green Tea Fresh Milk (IDR 10k)
If you liked green tea, I think you’d most likely enjoy this. They manage to add just enough green tea powder into the milk, so you can really taste both the milk and the green tea.

Susu Murni Hazelnut - Hazelnut Fresh Milk (IDR 10k)
I really like this one! I’m a bit surprised, to be honest, to be able to taste that much of hazelnut flavour in this milk.

Kentang Goreng - French Fries (IDR 10k)
The economical price is most definitely reflected by this fries’ unconvincing look. The waiter mentioned that the fries are freshly made, not from a frozen stock. I feel… doubtful of that.

Sosis Arab BIG - BIG Arabian Sausage (IDR 15k)
What a weird name, huh? But the taste is not weird at all. This Sosis Arab BIG reminds me of a grilled bratwurst—it’s soft, easy to cut, and fragrant. The sausage has a nice charred look and is served with mayonnaise and chilli sauce.

THE VERDICT
Despite the simplicity, Nenen Nyok serves food and drink that are worth the budget-friendly price tag. Sometime in the future, I’d love to go back.
